Valneris Guntis LAT - Anikeev Yuriy UKR 1-1

Valneris gained a winning advantage against Anikeev using 30.38-33! 17-22 (this is necessary because of the threat   31.27-21 16x27 32.31x22 17x28 33.33x22 18x27 34.34-30 25x34 35.40x16)   31.34-29! 23x34 32.39x30 25x34 33.40x29 15-20 34.43-38 13-19(!) An inventive defense: after 35.27-21 16x27 36.33-28 22x24! 37.31x2 1-7! the white king is caught.   35.47-42! With   40.37-32! Valneris could have secured the victory, because of the threat 26-21 17x37 28x8 37x39 8-3.   19-23! 42.45-40 13-19 43.40-35 19-24 44.49-43 23-28 and Anikeev escaped.

This gave white the possibility to play 46.29-24! 19x30 47.40-35! 11-17 (since   30-34? 48.33-29! 34x32 49.38x7 W+)   48.35x24 and the strong piece on 24 gives white a winning advantage.
