SWMG 2011 round 5
Pim Meurs was not in good shape this tournament. An illustration of this is the relatively simple 6x6 position in one of his games with Misans, in which he made a severe miscalculation: 18-23? 46.27-22 23x32 47.22x11 32-38 48.11-7! 38x29 49.7-1 29-33 50.1-6 and black resigned. Black could have made a draw with ≡ 14-20! Then 50.30-25 leads to an immediate draw with 24-29 51.25x21 29x47 = And after ≡ 52.27-22 18x27 53.30-25 black can play 17-21 54.25x23 21-26 55.23-19 13-18 56.19x30 27-31, also with a draw
Amrillaev was another player who was struggling this tournament. After Silva's 51.39-34? 12-17! black had a winning position, since 52.27-22? fails due to 21-27 53.32x12 23x41 54.36x47 24-30 55.35x24 19x8 B+ But after ≡ 52.34-30 25x34 Amrillaev failed to win the position with a piece more.
In a later blitz game it was Amrillaev who made a mistake: 7-11? 43.37-31! 9-13 44.31-26 11-16(?) Black had to do something, since ≡ 4-10 45.48-43 10-15 loses due to 46.27-21 13-18 47.21x12 18x7 48.32-27 23x21 49.26x6 W+ ≡ 45.48-43 16-21 46.27x16 13-18 47.26-21 17x26 48.16-11 26-31 49.11-6 31-36 50.6-1 4-9 51.1-7 18-22 52.28x17 36-41 53.7-1 9-13 54.1-6 29-34 55.30x39 23-28 56.32x23 19x28 57.17-12 14-20 58.25x14 41-47 59.6x15? Apparently both players were almost out of time here. With ≡ 59.6x20! white could easily win the game. ≡ 47x50 The position is a draw, but probably Amrillaev lost the game on time.
Dul became the victim of a simple combination after 22.48-43? 23-29! 23.33x4 13-18 24.4x22 19-23 25.28x19 17x46 26.19-13 8x19 and black won the game.
In the women's tournament Fedarovich managed to win the crucial game against leader Golubeva. Black has a promising attack in this position, but the advantage is not enough yet to win the game. 13-19 48.24x13 18x9 49.43-39 9-13 50.38-33 28-32 51.34-29 22-28 52.31x22 28x17 53.36-31 17-22 54.39-34 12-18 55.34-30? Golubeva yields under the pressure.The white position could still be defended with ≡ 55.31-26 32-37 56.34-30 22-27 57.29-24 15-20 ( ≡ 14-19 58.25-20 19-23 59.20-14 23-29 60.24-19 is also a draw) ≡ 58.24x15 37-42 59.30-24 42-48 60.25-20 14x25 61.15-10 etc. ≡ 22-28 56.33x22 18x36 57.29-24 14-19 58.25-20 19-23 59.20-14 23-29 60.24x33 36-41 61.30-24 41-47 62.14-10 47x20 63.10-5 32-38 64.5-37 38-43 65.37-46 43-48 66.46-23? 48-30 67.35x24 and white resigned.
Nogovitsyna won in a subtle game against Motrichko. White has some difficulties in the position of the diagram. For example 42.44-40? 35x44 43.49x40 is not possible due to 17-22! followed by 20-24 29x20 23-28 32x23 18x38. And after ≡ 42.37-31? black can force a break-through with 20-25! This would not be fatal after 43.49-43! 25-30 44.34x25 23x34 45.25-20!, but one can imagine that white preferred to play ≡ 42.33-28 20-24 43.28x30 35x33 44.44-39 33x44 45.49x40 18-23! With this move black splits the white position into two parts. The biggest problem for white is now that the pieces on the left side of the board are very passive. 46.37-31? In a few moves it will become clear why this was an unfortunate move. With ≡ 46.40-35 12-18 47.35-30 7-12 48.32-27! white could defend the position. ≡ 12-18! 47.34-30 7-12! The formation 12/18/23 now prevents the white pieces on the right side of the board to become active. If white had played ≡ 32-27 instead of ≡ 37-31, then ≡ 40-34 would have been possible now. ≡ 48.30-25(?) 23-28! 49.32x23 18x29 Black now effectively has a piece advantage, since the three white pieces on the left side of the board are blocked by the two black pieces on 11 and 17. 50.25-20 11-16 51.31-27 12-18 52.36-31 18-23 53.27-22 17x28 54.31-27 28-32! and white resigned.
Nina Hoekman missed a good opportunity with 7-12? After ≡ 18-23! 46.39-34 16-21! 47.34-29 23x34 48.30x39 21-27! 49.41-37 19-23 50.39-34 7-12 the white position is lost. The game ended in a draw after ≡ 46.39-34 4-10 47.34-29 10-15 48.29x20 15x24 49.33-29 24x33 50.30-24 19x30 51.35x24
