World Championship Hardenberg 2007 round 5
Tuvshinbold,O. - Misans,R. 0-2 (2007.05.17)
The talented youth player Misans met with Otgonbayar from Mongolia today. In this position everything was still OK for the white player. For example, after 35.34-30 20-25 36.29x20 15x24 37.49-44 25x34 38.44-40 34-39 39.33x44 22x33 40.38x20 10-15 41.43-38 15x24 the position would be equal. In a few moves, the situation will be completely change.
≡ 35.38-32 7-11 36.49-44 20-25 37.29x20 25x14 38.44-40 11-16
Here white is already in trouble, since the white center is under heavy pressure. White's next move is already very questionable. Now 39.34-29 14-20 40.40-34 would have helped to keep the damage to a minimum. In the first place, 21-27? 41.32x21 16x27 is very unattractive, since after 42.45-40! it is white who controls the right side of the board. And after ≡ 20-24 41.29x20 15x24 white has to retreat with 42.33-29 24x33 43.28x39, but the position is flexible enough to make a draw.
≡ 39.43-38? 14-20! 40.34-30 8-13! 41.30-24
The alternative ≡ 41.30-25 10-14 42.35-30 21-27 43.32x21 16x27 44.30-24 20x29 45.33x24 19x30 46.25x34 22x33 47.38x29 is also practically lost for white.
≡ 20x29 42.33x24 19x30 43.35x24 22x33 44.38x29 21-27! 45.32x21 16x27
The white center has been torn to pieces. In the game Otgonbayar loses in quite an elementary way. But there is no doubt that it was lost anyhow. For example, 46.40-34 17-22 47.34-30 10-14 48.30-25 22-28 49.47-41 12-17 50.41-36 18-22 51.45-40 17-21 52.26x17 22x11 53.42-37 11-17 and white is outplayed.
≡ 46.42-38 17-22 47.38-33 27-32! 48.24-20? 15x24 49.29x20 10-15
And Misans scored his first victory.
Domchev,A. - Lagoda,J. 1-1 (2007.05.17)
Domchev and Lagoda played an interesting game. Here the white player made a mistake by sacrificing two pieces. That was unnecessary, since 44.24-20 33-39 45.20-14 39-44 46.14-10 would easily lead to a draw.
≡ 44.42-38 33x31 45.24-20 23-29 46.20-14 29-34 47.14-10 34-40 48.11-7 1x12 49.10-4 13-19 50.4-10 19-24 51.10-23 40-44 52.23x1 8-13 53.1-6
And here the black player was too generous. It was still possible to win using 13-19 54.22-18 44-49 55.32-28 49-27! 56.18-12 (other moves are no better) 36-41 57.47x36 27-16 58.36x27 16x7A 59.6-28 7-23 60.28-33 23-37! 61.33x20 19-24 62.20x31 26x37 B+
A It's funny that ≡ 16x1? is not winning here: 59.6-33! 1-29 60.33-47! etc.
and the game ended in a draw (the rest of the moves isn't available).
Thijssen,K. - Pierre,R. 0-2 (2007.05.17)
≡ 1.33-29 19-23 2.35-30 14-19 3.40-35 17-22 4.45-40 11-17 5.38-33 9-14 6.30-25 4-9 7.50-45 6-11 8.42-38 1-6 9.47-42 22-28 10.33x22 17x28 11.34-30 23x34 12.32x23 19x28 13.40x29 11-17 14.44-40 7-11 15.49-44 2-7 16.40-34 16-21 17.44-40 20-24 18.29x20 15x24 19.30x19 13x24 20.34-30 9-13 21.30x19 14x23 22.40-34 10-14 23.34-30 17-22 24.30-24 21-27 25.45-40 11-17
Today's biggest sensation: the dutch hope Kees Thijssen was the victim of a simple combination.
26.40-34? 27-32! 27.38x27 17-21 28.27x16 22-27 29.31x33 23-29 30.34x23
And the game was over. Quite a shock for the dutch public. Now all hope is on Jeroen van de Akker.
