Teer,F. - Wesselink,W. 1-1 (26-01-2002)

During the semi finals of the Dutch championships I played the following interesting game with Frank Teer.

1. 34-29 18-22 2. 40-34 12-18 3. 45-40 07-12 4. 50-45 01-07 5. 31-26 16-21
6. 32-28 19-23 7. 28x19 14x23 8. 35-30 10-14 9. 30-24 05-10 10. 33-28 22x33
11. 39x19 14x23 12. 37-32 21-27 13. 32x21 11-16 14. 41-37 16x27 15. 37-32 17-21
16. 26x17 12x21 17. 46-41 21-26 18. 32x21 26x17 19. 38-32 07-12 20. 43-39 17-21
21. 42-37 21-26 22. 36-31 20-25 23. 31-27 12-17 24. 48-42 06-11 25. 49-43 09-14
26. 40-35 04-09 27. 44-40

Now 17-22 isn't very attractive for black because of the combination 28.43-38 22x31 29.32-27 31x22 30.34-30 23x32 31.37x6 25x34 32.40x29. An alternative plan for black is to head for a Partie Bonnard. During the game I was under the impression that this would be better for white. As we'll see later this was a mistake.

14-20 28. 43-38 11-16(?)

A much more interesting plan was 10-14 29.39-33 14-19 30.35-30 2-7(!), see diagram.

In this position white cannot play 31.33-28? because of 18-22! 32.27x18 13x33 33.24x4 (or 24x2) 33x44 with a winning position for black. And after the logical move 31.41-36 8-12! white has no other choice than to play the ugly move 32.40-35, which gives black good perspectives to win the game. The only satisfactory plan for white is therefore 31.27-21(!) 7-12 (and certainly not 8-12? 32.21-16! and white wins) 32.21-16 17-22 33.16x7 12x1 34.41-36 8-12 35.32-27 22x31 36.36x27 12-17 37.27-21! 17-22 38.37-32 26x17 39.32-28 23x43 40.33-28 22x33 41.29x49 20x29 42.34x21 25x34 43.40x29 with an equal position.

29. 39-33 17-22 30. 41-36 22x31 31. 36x27 18-22 32. 29x18 22x31 33. 32-27 13x22
34. 27x36 20x29 35. 34x23 22-27 36. 33-29

After the following move 09-13 the game suddenly comes to an end. With the simple but very effective move 37.29-24?! white shattered my remaining hopes for a positive result. Black cannot allow 35-30, so further exchanges are unavoidable.

09-13 37. 29-24 10-14 38. 23-19 14x23 39. 35-30 25x34 40. 40x09 03x14
41. 38-32 27x38 42. 42x33 14-19
